Josiah Wedgwood invented jasper (fine stoneware) in 1775 and since this time the the bas-relief figures have been hand applied by skilled crafstmen. Many of the subjects are based on Greek or Roman mythology. We have identified the classical Wedgwood designs on the cameos and dated the jewellery from the settings and other markings.
